Continuum of Care University of Phoenix Essay
Long-term Care is only one piece of continuum care. Most Americans try to stay home as long as they can. People love to try and keep their independence as long as they can. Many elderly Americans are able to stay home as long as they can due to family members help and home health care aide. Most elderly people can no longer take care of themselves mentally and physically. This is when Long-term care continuum benefits the patient. The long-term care continuum consists of nursing home care and assisted living care. The first step in the continuum of care is Independent living. Elderly patients are placed in supportive housing or home based healthcare. If the patient is unsuccessful with supportive housing, we must move to the next step. The next step is providing in home care. In home care is less expensive than long term care. The cost of care for this service depends on the level of care and the hours of service the patient needs. The patientââ¬â¢s last choice should be long term care. Most elderly patients use Medicare or Medicaid for long term care payment. Medicare only applies to the patientââ¬â¢s long-term care if the patient is immediately following a hospital stay. Medicare only cover short term provider prescribed home health care for speech therapy, skilled nursing, occupational and medical social services. Medicare also covers up to 100 days of nursing home care. We are fighting today for a longer duration for long term care. The federal government should allow elderly patients more time in long term care facilities. I believe this would cut the cost of emergency room visits and hospital admittance in seniors.
Karl Marxââ¬â¢ views Essay
For Karl Marx, poverty is the outcome of the rampant class inequality that the society is suffering today. The working class, whom Karl Marx advocates, is the ones who are actually earning the money for the society (Nafziger & Auvinen, 2003). They are the ones who actually deserve to get much of the gains, rather those who are capitalizing from their labor. Marx stressed that capitalists are the ones bringing disarray in the society because they are actually contributing lesser work as compared to the laborers, yet they are getting most of the gains. In order to correct this, Marx strongly advocated the abolishing of capitalism and replaces it with communism. For him, it could be a way to alleviate poverty in the society today, rather than just letting the capitalists sit around and wait for the harvest of their moneyââ¬â¢s fruit, rather than giving the laborers the real fruits of their labors. In Marxââ¬â¢ belief, capitalism has been the root of the great class divide, the widening gap between different social strata, where the poor and the rich are distinctively apart from each other. This is because of the fact that a great part of the gains goes to the pockets and the bellies of the capitalists, who are theoretically ââ¬Å"getting even richer,â⬠the fact that they are the ones who have the money. On the other hand, the laborers, the ones who are exerting greater effort as compared to these capitalists, are not getting anywhere the definition of rich at all, hence, they are having the difficulty to cope with the increasing cost of living, thus worsening their status, with them experiencing the ââ¬Å"poor is getting poorerâ⬠part. Looking closely at Marxââ¬â¢ ideas, you could see that it could also be about freedom. It is being able to freely produce and receive what is rightfully yours, as for the part of the laborers, for their efforts, their hard work to be reciprocated with enough pay (Kohl & Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Development Centre. , 2003). It is about how the true ââ¬Å"money-earnersâ⬠ââ¬â the laborers, be able to control various circumstances that could benefit them, and not the capitalists. They will be able to create a free society where their hard work will be equal to a good life for them and their families. Because of this, the society will be a better place as conceived by Marx. It will be an exploitation-free society, in the same time it will do away with oppression, racism, unemployment, war, from poverty and inequality.

A Synopsis of the Movie The Hurt Locker Essay Example for Free
A Synopsis of the Movie The Hurt Locker Essay ? How do at least two of the following production elements combine to engage audiences with what is occurring one scene or sequence of the narrative you have studied. Scene 6 escalates the growing tension between James and Sanborn through sound and camera work. The audience assumes that the situation is extremely dangerous at the beginning of the scene due to the air raid siren sounds and the long shot establishing the evacuation of the UN building. This chaos is further emphasised by the shaky camera and the stressed voice tones in the dialogue of Sanborn and Eldridge. The audienceââ¬â¢s tension is then released by Jamesââ¬â¢ sigh as he puts out the burning car fire. The chaotic tension between the team members and their interrelationships is highlighted by the quick, hasty shots between the three as they attempt to access the bomb. The audience is further involved in this scene even more so, being positioned as the fourth team member, often by shots through the scope of a gun and through the bomb suit mask. By involving the audience, Bigelow is able to further engage the audience with the relationships between the characters. Bigelow makes the audience on edge during this scene through the highlighted breaths and sighs of Jeremy Renner. The sighs are often used to release tension between the characters and the audience, in particular when Renner defuses the bomb and he receives his adrenaline rush. Renner also exhales heavily when searching the car for the bomb, emphasising the frustration and inability to find the bomb. This allows the movie goers to feel Jamesââ¬â¢ adrenaline rush kicking in as well. When Renner cuts the seat of the car, the shot creates a sound edit. The audience is still experiencing the high emotions from the intercutting shots between Sanborn and James when the frame cuts to black and the sound of the cutting shocks the audience into believing that someone has been shot. Fittingly, the ripping of the material by Renner further establishes his character as a stupid or blindly courageous character, making the audience less favourable of him as he is endangering his own life and the lives of Sanborn and Eldridge. The System of Courts Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
The System of Courts - Essay Example However, there are several controversies about the Supreme Court, ranging from the lack of teeth to the exorbitant costs involved in setting up this institution. In the next few pages, I would like to discuss why ââ¬ËThe creation of a Supreme Court was an unnecessary and overly-expensiveà reform. The Appellate Committee of the House of Lords was independent,à effective and was regarded as one of the finest courts in the world.ââ¬â¢ Background The House of Lords took pride in understanding its judicial role over 600 years ago and its main inspiration and influence was the ââ¬ËCuria Regisââ¬â¢ or the work of the royal court. This piece of work helped in advising the sovereign as well as passing laws at the highest level within the state. Till the year 1399, it was the function of both Houses of Parliament to listen to petitions however, the end of this year marked the House of Commons to have no more involvement in such cases, thus leaving the House of Lords as the high est court of appeal. ... the judicial business of the House and their powers and functions included voting on legislation as full members of the House of Lords however they rarely exercised these rights. The chamber of the House of Lords was the meeting place for listening to appeals however sadly after the bombing of the Second World War, the Law Lords decided to form a personal Appellate Committee of their own because the building repairs and noises were distracting them from carrying out their work ordeals. And thus this new committee room of theirs grew from a temporary arrangement to a permanent one forming a separate Appellate Committee to overlook certain cases and problems. All the Law Lords became the first Justices when the Supreme Court commenced in October 2009. According to the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Court was to provide greater clarity in the constitutional arrangements of the country by implementing a further separation of the judiciary from the legislature. It was stated that the Su preme Court was to assume the jurisdiction of the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords as well as the devolution jurisdiction of the Privy Council. Independent Law Lords were to be appointed in order to preside over the court which would be situated in Middlesex Guildhall on London's Parliament Square - opposite the Houses of Parliament and alongside Westminster Abbey and the Treasury. The Guildhall will thus begin to function from October 2009 onwards for the purpose of serving as an apex body of justice.1 As per the UK Department for Constitutional Affairs, the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court was clarified as an aspect that would take over the judicial functions of both the House of Lords as well as the Privy Council to an extent. All matters under English law, Welsh law and

Marketing - Explain and Evaluate Porter's 'five forces' model Essay
Marketing - Explain and Evaluate Porter's 'five forces' model - Essay Example This model has become widely known, discussed and applied to various markets or industries. Porterââ¬â¢s Five Forces Model attempts to explain the forces which operate in the market with a potential to reduce the profitability of a firm as a result of the interests of various actors which are a part of the market, or who interact with the industry. Although consideration of Porterââ¬â¢s Five Forces model is essential for any analysis related to an industry or a market, the model also presents some limitations when it is used for the analysis of dynamic, global markets in which fast innovation, technology change and a rapid change of players has come to be accepted. This essay presents an explanation of Michael Porterââ¬â¢s Five Forces Model and examines some of the modelââ¬â¢s limitations. Existing industries and those players who are about to enter a market, as well as the investors who want to make an investment in an industry need to understand the competitor dynamics associated with the industry or market. Such an understanding is necessary for the assessment of the potential investment opportunities associated with a venture so as to provide a better assessment of the returns which can be expected, sound business or strategic planning and how the products or services which are being offered by an industry player may be differentiated or enhanced from what is being offered by the competitors. Various models have been offered to assist with such an analysis including the Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats or SWOT model, Igor Ansoffââ¬â¢s Gap Analysis model, the resource based model and Michael Porterââ¬â¢s Five Forces Model (Porter, 1998) and (Quick MBA, 2005).
